Census Records and Other Resources

 After the War of 1812, John remained in Moreau, Saratoga County, New York and married Anna Maria LOWEN [sic] on February 14, 1819.  In the 1820 Census of Moreau TWP, Saratoga County, New York: John BAZONIA is listed age between 26 and 45, Free Male, and a Free Female age between 10 and 16. The family is listed next to John Lown and Jacob Lown.

[Editor’s note: Maria would have been 18 or 19 for the 1820 Census if actually born in 1801.]

In the 1850 Census, John was reported to be age 65 and a farmer on land valued at $300.  He died on March 3, 1851.

John BAZONIAN 1 male 26 to 45 1 female 10 to 15 no children.

2. 1830 Census  of Moreau, NY the family is recorded as:   
John BESOLEO 1 m 40-49, 1 m 5-9, 2 m 0-4, 1 f 30-39, 2 f 5-9

Next house to John is listed the families of: 
John Lown, male over 45, 1 female over 45, 1male 20-29 and two male children. 
Jacob Lown: 1 male 18 to 26, 1 female, 18 to 26, 1 child under 10.

3. 1840 Census of Pembroke, Genesee Co., NY enumerates the family as:
John BEZONIA 1 m 50-60, 1 m 15-19, 2 m 10-14, 1 m 5-9, 1 m 0-4, 1 f 40-49 1 f 15-19, 2 f 5-10.  [Anna Maria would have been 39 or 40 years old and JBB 55 years old.]

Royal Lown (believed to be Maria’s brother) is enumerated next door as 30 years of age w/ Sarah 26, Benjamin 5, Ellen E. 3.

4. 1850 Census of Genesee, Co., New York: 
John was 65 years of age and was unable to read or write. He and his family were enumerated in dwelling No. 298. John was a farmer, Value of Real Estate $300. Born – Italy.  Maria, Age 49. Born – New York. Children: Andrew J. Age 19. Farmer; Helen Age 17; Charles Age 13, Attending School; Sarah Age 8, Attending School

5.1865 Census Cattaraugus county, town of Randolph, New York
Bezoni, Chas. 503. [A son of John Baptist living with his older brother, William.]
Bezoni, Wm. S. 476

Will Records, Genesee County, NY: Book 175, Pages 317-320: 16 May 1884 William S. Bezona and his wife, Elvira, resided in Randolph, Cattaraugus County, New York, when he signed a quit claim deed for property in Batavia, Genesee County, New York. He deeded land previously owned by Maria Bezona to Andrew J. Bezona.
